Daryl Dixon Season 3 Episode 5 “Limbo” Recap – Betrayal, Walker Train & Epic Fort Battle

I don’t know about you, but this episode felt like a ride that never lets go. This week's episode is a deep, lonely trek for Daryl, and you can feel every mile he walks.

Justina, Roberto, and a Truth That Hurts

Antonio, Carol and Daryl searching for Roberto.

Roberto gets found strung up and nearly eaten by walkers. The first thing that hit me? Fede’s betrayal. I mean, he literally hands over his own niece for power, you feel for Roberto, he risked everything, only to find out someone he trusted would sell out just to stay “safe”.

And Justina is clever, strong. She tried to manipulate Fede with the threat of exposure, but he ignored her.

Daryl decides to chase her alone. Carol stays behind, acting like she’s on Fede’s side, that lie about bandits!

Daryl Meets the Weird and Terrifying

Mateo

Then Daryl hits the desert. He meets this blind guy, eyes gouged out, asking for water, and warns about a “bone crusher”! Already, I’m like: This is not your normal episode!

The walker train is insane. A horde dragging a train full of bandits, led by a singing cowboy? That’s so creepy it works. I was holding my breath when the Buzzards attack. His motorcycle is wrecked. He’s nearly dead from dehydration. And then, just when you think it’s hopeless, Mateo shows up and takes him to the leper community.

Amaia, their leader, doesn’t have leprosy. She asks Daryl to help get back the stolen water. I actually felt that moment, Daryl sitting in the car they gave him, torn between going to Barcelona or helping these people. You could almost see him thinking it through!

The Fort Battle – Old-School Action

Amaia, Daryl and Mateo.

The defense of the fort? Pure Magnificent Seven vibes. Daryl trains these peaceful folks, and they hold off the Buzzards with clever tricks. I loved the little girl counting bullets in the sand.

Hijacking the train is epic. Releasing the walker horde, taking down the cowboy Piper, fighting Chofo, the Buzzards leader, it’s brutal but Daryl’s strategy and calm under pressure, that’s why he’s the best. The way he uses the environment to end Chofo…perfect mix of smart and ruthless.

And the payoff with that little girl giving him her water bottle, a tiny gesture but big emotional punch.

Tension Back in Solaz

Meanwhile, Carol is running a delicate game. Fede is suspicious. Justina’s necklace shows up. You feel the tension in your chest. If Fede finds out, Roberto could die. This side of the story is smart, it’s about human greed, fear, and lies. It makes the episode feel grounded.

Why 'Limbo' Works

This episode is not a filler, every scene matters. You get Daryl’s survival skills, his morality, and even hope. You see how humans can be monsters without being undead. And those creative threats, the walker train, the Buzzards, keep you on edge.

Honestly, this is the kind of episode that makes me want to rewatch the season. It’s tense, violent, clever, and occasionally touching. And Daryl’s still the one I’d want on my side when the world goes to hell.
