I’ve followed the Fantastic Four journey for years — from the comics to the less-than-perfect movie attempts — and hearing that Marvel is finally giving them the full MCU treatment in Fantastic Four: First Steps has me cautiously optimistic. Not just because the cast is stacked, but because it feels like Marvel might finally get it right this time.
Here’s what we know: First Steps will be set in a 1960s-inspired alternate Earth, and that already makes it feel different from the usual MCU fare. Think of it as a retro-futuristic vibe, more Jetsons meets cosmic horror than Iron Man meets corporate warfare. That alone sets a tone that’s both nostalgic and full of world-building potential.
It’s not your typical gritty reboot. It’s bold, colorful, and honestly — exactly what the Fantastic Four needed to stand out again.
Let’s talk cast — because this is where the hype starts feeling legit:
- Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic)
- Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman)
- Joseph Quinn (yep, Eddie from Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm
- Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear, Andor) as Ben Grimm aka The Thing
If you’d told me five years ago that we'd have this kind of casting, I would've laughed. But now? It feels earned. And the chemistry between them will make or break this movie — but Marvel seems to be betting big that it’ll work.
Now here’s the juicy part: Galactus is coming. And no, not a weird cloud like last time. Ralph Ineson (you’ll remember his voice from The Witch or Game of Thrones) is playing Galactus — and just his voice alone adds this eerie, ancient menace I’m 100% here for.
Then there's Silver Surfer, but here's the twist: Julia Garner is playing a female version of the character. Honestly, I love this change. It's fresh, and Garner has the chops to bring emotional weight and alien detachment — just like the Surfer needs.
And in what might be the biggest wildcard of all: Sue Storm is pregnant. Yep — the Fantastic Four’s first steps in the MCU might also include the first steps of Franklin Richards, who, in the comics, is one of the most powerful mutants in existence.
This one detail opens up massive doors for the future of the MCU — not just multiverse stuff, but real cosmic-level storytelling.
This film is directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision), so we already know he can handle tone-shifting, high-concept sci-fi. He’s joined by a team of writers including Josh Friedman (Avatar 2) and Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok), which is a solid mix of smart writing and fun spectacle.
Plus, Michael Giacchino is doing the score — the same composer behind The Batman, Up, and Doctor Strange. His involvement tells me they’re aiming for more than just flashy visuals — they want heart and atmosphere too.
As a fan who’s been burned before (looking at you, 2015 reboot), I’m hopeful but realistic. Fantastic Four: First Steps has everything in place — the cast, the director, the scope. But it’s also taking bold swings, and bold swings can either land beautifully or flop hard.
Still, I’m rooting for it. The MCU needs new blood. And if Marvel can finally give the First Family the respect they deserve, then yeah — I’ll be first in line July 25, 2025.
