Severance Season 2 Episode 6 - "Attila" Recap
Severance continues to unravel its eerie, thought-provoking narrative in Season 2, and Episode 6, “Attila,” is no exception. With each passing episode, the show peels back another layer of its dark corporate mystery, and this week we were treated to some of the most unsettling developments yet. From cryptic dinner conversations to romance taking unexpected turns, this episode was packed with intrigue and revelations that may shift the very foundation of what we thought we knew.
The Dinner Party from Hell
Irving’s (John Turturro) visit to Burt’s (Christopher Walken) home was supposed to be a simple gathering, but instead, it became a disturbing puzzle piece in the show’s ever-growing mystery. From the moment Irving arrives, there is a palpable tension, especially between Burt and his husband, Fields (John Noble).
At first, Burt’s outie seems like a completely different person—rigid, devout, and eerily composed. But things take a sharp turn when the conversation shifts to Burt’s past with Lumon. A casual remark from Fields suggests that Burt was involved with the company twenty years ago—long before the first official severed office was even opened. This bombshell raises countless questions. Was Burt always more deeply entangled with Lumon than we assumed? If so, what is his real role in all of this?
More unsettling is how seamlessly the dinner conversation dances around theology and severance. The idea that Burt underwent the procedure because of religious beliefs—so his “innie” could go to heaven while his “outie” was doomed to hell—feels both absurd and disturbingly plausible in the Severance universe. But is this truly their reason, or is it just a fabricated cover story to mask something even more sinister?
And while Irving is distracted at dinner, someone is breaking into his apartment. The timing of this intrusion is too precise to be a coincidence. Could Burt have lured Irving away on purpose? Is Lumon still pulling strings in ways we can’t fully grasp yet?

Meanwhile, outside the creepy confines of Burt’s home, relationships take unexpected turns. Dylan G. (Zach Cherry) and his outie’s wife, Gretchen (Merrit Wever), share a moment that blurs the lines of loyalty and identity. Dylan’s innie seems to embody the loving, affectionate man Gretchen once knew, leading to an intimate kiss that leaves her shaken. When she later returns home and lies to her husband about the meeting being canceled, it raises an unsettling question: Can you cheat on your spouse with a different version of them?
Similarly, Mark S. (Adam Scott) and Helly R. (Britt Lower) find themselves tangled in the complexity of their identities. Mark reveals to Helly that he has already been intimate with her outie, a confession that rattles her deeply. Determined to reclaim control over her own experiences, Helly initiates intimacy with Mark’s innie. But this moment of passion takes a sharp turn when Mark notices he has a nosebleed—a haunting callback to Petey’s deteriorating condition in Season 1.
Ms. Huang (Sarah Bock) is quick to check on Mark, questioning whether he has been experiencing hallucinations. Her concerns about the “black hallway” and his reintegration symptoms suggest that something is happening beneath the surface—something Lumon might not be able to control.

The Return of Helena Egan
Just when things couldn’t get stranger, Mark finds himself in an unexpected encounter with Helena Egan. Unlike the cold, corporate executive we’ve come to know, she appears more casual, friendly, even charming. But make no mistake—Helena is here with an agenda.
Her conversation with Mark is laced with subtle manipulation, as she probes him for details about his current condition. Is she trying to assess the success of his reintegration? Or does she have more personal motives? Whatever her endgame is, one thing is clear: Lumon’s influence stretches far beyond its cold, sterile offices. The battle between identity, autonomy, and control is far from over.
Final Thoughts
“Attila” is an episode that reminds us just how deep the rabbit hole goes. Every conversation, every lingering silence, every flickering flame in the background of Burt’s dinner party—it all carries weight. The show continues to explore not just corporate dystopia but the human condition itself, questioning love, faith, and the very nature of selfhood.
As we inch closer to the season finale, one thing is certain: Severance isn’t just a story about workplace horror. It’s about identity, morality, and the terrifying possibility that we might not be in control of our own lives at all.
