The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 - December 2025 Updates & What We Know So Far
Filming for Season 3 kicked off in early September 2025, mostly around Massachusetts (Boston, Worcester, and Brockton). Production seems to be wrapping up now, though Jeffrey Dean Morgan hinted some small scenes might spill into January 2026. I personally think that extra filming could hint at some hidden surprises or intense action sequences.
When Can We Watch It?

AMC hasn’t given a firm premiere date yet, but mid-to-late 2026 feels likely. Season 3 is expected to have eight episodes, matching the expanded format from Season 2. I think eight episodes are perfect, they give enough time to develop the story without dragging. Personally, I feel this shorter season might make every scene feel more intense, especially with Maggie and Negan’s complicated history.
Returning Faces and New Characters

Of course, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are back as Maggie and Negan. On top of that, new characters are joining the fray: Jimmi Simpson as Dillard, Raúl Castillo as Luis, and Aimee Garcia in a role we’re still learning about. I’m genuinely curious how these newcomers will shake up the city, and challenge Maggie and Negan in ways we haven’t seen before.
A Fresh Perspective Behind the Scenes

Season 3 comes with a major behind-the-scenes change. Seth Hoffman, a veteran from the original Walking Dead series, takes over as showrunner from Eli Jorné. I personally think this is exciting. Hoffman knows the tone and tension that made the original series so gripping. If anyone can balance emotional stakes with zombie chaos, it’s him.
What the Story Could Hold

After the events of Season 2, Maggie and Negan are trying to build Manhattan’s first thriving post-apocalypse community. But the city isn’t going to let them off easy. Chaos will push them to confront old wounds and test whether they’ve truly changed. I think the tension between their past grudges and the need to cooperate will make for a thrilling season. We currently don’t have anything officially released from Season 3 except a teaser poster, a zombie-themed apple with the tagline, “New York is not done with Negan and Maggie yet”.

Looking Ahead to Dead City
Season 3 of Dead City looks like it’s going to be full of surprises. I personally can’t wait to see how Maggie and Negan handle building a community while facing new threats. For fans like me, 2026 can’t come soon enough.
