Confirmed Facts About Fromville - FROM Season 4 [Analysis]

We're currently at the mid-season mark of Season 4 of FROM. The first 5 episodes revealed a lot, so I decided to create this piece to structure, understand, and digest what we just got from Fromville.

Not theories, only the confirmed reality facts in that damn place!

The Nature of Time and "Storywalking"

Post image

Let's start with Julie and her 'power'. Julie now can time-travel only to the past, but the interesting part is that she can't change "told" stories, like her father's death, unfortunately. But she can change untold stories, like saving Boyd's life by throwing the rope to him in Season 2 when he was trapped in the chimney.

Julie now has two problems to solve. First, how to create the "bookmark" so she can control where and when she can go. And second, she needs to find a way to communicate with Randall in case she ends up in a dangerous situation—relying on time here is risky.

A Living Nightmare

Post image

Fromville is confirmed to manifest and physicalize fears and nightmares into reality in that place. We know that from Tabitha's vision when, in one of her past lives, she was a child playing with dolls, and one of the residents was afraid of them because the dolls gave him nightmares. And when he died, his nightmare became true. This is an interesting reveal, because that means the place is somehow connected to the residents' emotions and mental states.

I also have a question that just popped up, but I struggle to find an answer to it. Remember when the residents were struggling with food, and even the soil couldn't grow plants? But when Tian-Chen died, they started to find food, and the soil went back to normal and could grow crops again! Maybe the opposite of a nightmare can manifest too. Weird. I can't find a connection, if there is any, but I think this is a strand that could lead to a way to control the place.

A Painful Deja Vu

Post image

We all know the reincarnation fact by the end of Season 3, but the new thing here is that Jade will not be killed by monsters. In fact, they won't kill him even if he goes out at night, because they know his sealed fate—he always gets killed by the people of the town!

During Jade's mushroom journey, his younger self showed him his past versions and how they died—all of them killed by the residents after the Anghkooey children told them something. And when Jade asked about Tabitha's fate, the boy said her fate is worse!

Jade's younger self also showed him where the Anghkooey children are, which is interesting because I thought the door that leads to the children he saw was just a hallucination. But in the Episode 6 teaser, it showed that the door is real. I'm very excited to know what they will see inside.

The Devil in Yellow

Post image

After The Man in Yellow killed Jim, I first thought he was going to start a death spree among the town residents. But now I kind of understand his role—he will manipulate their minds, divide them, and turn them against each other.

But I don't understand how he can reach his goal, because he said to the point of them tearing themselves apart. I understand his intention, but I don't have a clue how he will reach that level or why.

Where Facts Start to Blur

There are characters' statements about the place, but I think they fall more into theories than established facts. Examples would be when Marielle said that even after death, the souls are trapped, and that the place is feeding on their fear and misery.

I’ve been obsessed with sci-fi for as long as I can remember. Writing lets me explore those worlds while focusing on the people living in them. Isaac Asimov’s books especially got me through some of my harder times, and they still stick with me in a way I can’t really explain. Joining SciFi Spiral introduced me to a community of fellow fans, and I’ve made some amazing friends who love sci-fi just as much as I do. When I’m not writing, you’ll probably find me reading my favorite sci-fi books.
