Daryl Dixon May Be the Best Walking Dead Spinoff
The Daryl Dixon team had a strong night at the Saturn Awards.
At the 53rd annual ceremony on March 8, 2026, the series took home the award for Best Television Presentation or Limited Series. It’s a big moment for a show that arrived years after the original The Walking Dead ended but somehow still managed to feel fresh inside a universe that has been running for more than a decade. For longtime fans, the win felt earned.
Season 1 especially showed that this franchise could still surprise people. The European setting looked different from anything we had seen before, the cinematography felt more cinematic, and the tone leaned a little more mature than many earlier chapters in the universe.
Norman Reedus Accepts the Award After 16 Years as Daryl

During the ceremony, Norman Reedus stepped on stage to accept the award on behalf of the cast and crew.
Reedus reflected on the long road behind him. Sixteen years playing Daryl Dixon is a rare run for any television character, especially in a franchise that has gone through so many different arcs, settings, and spinoffs.
His speech focused on gratitude, the production team, the fans and the people who helped turn a quiet crossbow-carrying survivor into one of television’s most recognizable characters.
Reedus was also nominated for Best Actor in a Television Series, while Melissa McBride received a nomination for Best Actress for her role as Carol. Neither took home the individual trophies, but the nominations still underline how important their performances remain to the series.
Recognition for Other Walking Dead Spinoffs

The wider franchise also showed up on the nomination list.. Dead City received a nomination for Best Horror Television Series, though the category ultimately went to It: Welcome to Derry.
Even so, the nominations alone highlight something interesting about the Walking Dead universe. The original show ended years ago, but the franchise still finds ways to stay visible through its newer stories.
Some spinoffs work better than others, of course. Personally, Daryl Dixon has always felt stronger to me than Dead City. The shorter seasons keep the story tight, while Dead City sometimes feels like it moves in circles for too long before reaching its point.

Looking Ahead to the Final Season of Daryl Dixon

The journey is not finished yet!
Daryl Dixon has already been confirmed to return for a fourth and final season in 2026. This upcoming chapter will close the story that began when Daryl unexpectedly found himself stranded in France.
Fans are already speculating about where the story will go next. One possibility is a return to America, which could open the door for reunions with characters from the original series.
And honestly, that idea alone makes the final season exciting. I really hope Daryl eventually reunites with Rick and Laurent before the story ends. After everything this character has been through, it would feel like a fitting full-circle moment.
A Look Back at the Show’s Seasons

Looking back across the series so far, the quality has moved up and down.
Season 1 still stands out. The show felt bold in its early episodes, experimenting with a new location and tone that separated it from other Walking Dead stories. The world looked different, and the narrative moved with purpose.
When Carol entered the story, though, the pacing slowed down for me. The energy of those first episodes shifted, and the plot seemed to pause for a while.
Season 3 created mixed reactions as well. Some moments felt weaker than earlier work, yet the train episode was easily one of the best hours the show has produced. It reminded me how good this series can be when everything clicks.
Even with its uneven moments, I still think Season 3 is genuinely good television and absolutely worth watching.
Why Daryl Dixon Still Works as a Character

One reason the series continues to hold attention is Daryl himself.
His arc across the franchise is remarkable. In the early seasons of the original show, I honestly didn’t like him very much. He was rough, distant, and hard to connect with.
Over time, though, the character changed. Slowly. Naturally. Season by season.
That long transformation turned Daryl into one of the most beloved figures in the entire Walking Dead universe. Few characters in television have experienced that kind of growth while remaining believable.
The Future of the Walking Dead Universe
While Daryl Dixon is heading toward its final season, the franchise itself is still moving forward.
Dead City has already been renewed for a third season, expected sometime in late 2026. The next chapter will continue exploring the fragile truce between Maggie and Negan after the events of Season 2.
Taken together, the award win, the nominations, and the upcoming seasons all show that The Walking Dead universe still has life left in it!
The Best Way to Watch the Story
For anyone jumping into this world now, I always suggest starting from the beginning.
Watching all 11 seasons of the original The Walking Dead first gives the full context for characters like Daryl and Carol. Their history matters, and it makes moments in the spinoffs feel more meaningful.
Shows like Tales of the Walking Dead and World Beyond are more optional in my view. They expand the universe and add interesting pieces to the lore, but they aren’t essential to follow the main narrative.
As for Daryl Dixon, I wouldn’t call it prestige television.
Still, it’s a strong show. Strong enough that I’m actually rewatching it right now while waiting for the final season. And after this Saturn Award win, it feels like the series is getting the recognition it deserves just before the story reaches its end.
