After a slow season, Dead City picked up as Negan hit rock bottom. The Croat kills Christos’ men right before Negan, and the Dama forbids him to act. Feeling trapped, Negan manipulates his enemies, leading to chaos and the Dama’s fiery death. The old Negan is stirring — no bat needed.
Maggie’s group is "rescued" by Bruegel, but trust is thin. Bruegel offers to supply New Babylon with methane if Maggie’s group helps him kill the Croat, Negan, and all their people. He’s making a deal to get rid of his enemies using their help. Meanwhile, a terrifying creature stalks their shelter, hinting danger ahead. Ginny hides her injuries, adding tension within the group.
With the Dama gone and Negan planning to leave, the Croat faces isolation. A confrontation explodes when Negan’s boot print reveals a betrayal. Negan beats the Croat, asserting control, but the damage is done — the Croat’s world crumbles.
Maggie struggles with her team’s loyalties. Hershel distances himself, ready to join the Dama, while Ginny’s hidden gun and injury foreshadow dark choices. Negan finds Benjamin Pierce locked away, sharing a rare moment of reflection on his past sins.
A giant, injured grizzly attacks the group. Hershel saves Maggie but then leaves silently, signaling a break from his mother. Maggie warns Negan about Bruegel’s threats, but Negan’s heart breaks as he watches his family arrive, deciding to send them away (back) for their safety.
Bruegel reveals he holds a zombified Narvaez and pressures Perlie for methane, showing his ruthless side. The episode closes with Ginny aiming a gun at Negan, only to collapse from infection. Negan is left alone, losing everyone he cares about once again.
