Foundation Season 4 December 2025 Updates: Cast, Storylines, Release, and Goyer’s Role

Production for Foundation Season 4 is shaping up to be huge. The entire shoot will take place in Prague for the first time. I’ve been following the series closely, and it looks like the show is going bigger than ever!

Production and Release Timeline

Terrence Mann as Brother Dusk on the set of Foundation.

Filming starts in Prague on January 5, 2026, and will last over 120 days. That’s a very long shoot, showing how big Apple wants this season to be. The release date isn’t set yet, but mid-to-late 2027 is likely. I’d rather wait for a great season than see a rushed one.

Creative Leadership Changes

David S. Goyer

David S. Goyer is stepping back from running the show day-to-day, but he is still involved in a high-level capacity (as a consultant, not formal showrunning). I thought he might leave completely, but he’s still guiding the series. He said he needed to spend more time with his family.

Ian Goldberg (Fear the Walking Dead) and David Kob (The Flash) are the new co-showrunners. They may have experience, but new leadership often changes too much. Even if they claim to follow Goyer’s plan, their own ideas could dilute the story. I’m worried they won’t honor the original vision that made the show great.

Cast and Character Status

Jared Harris as Hari Seldon on the set of Foundation.

Several main cast members are returning: Lou Llobell (Gaal Dornick), Jared Harris (Hari Seldon), Terrance Mann (Brother Dusk), Cassian Bilton (Brother Dawn), and Synnøve Karlsen (Bayta Mallow). The Empire’s story is my favorite, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

The fates of Lee Pace (Brother Day) and Laura Birn (Demerzel) are still uncertain. Season 3 left their characters destroyed. I hope they return—they’re too important to be gone. New cast members will also join, as extras fittings have already started.

Storylines and Plot Focus

Terrence Mann as Brother Dusk in Foundation Season 3.

Season 4 will use Asimov’s Second Foundation and finish the core trilogy. The main story points are:

- The Mule’s Threat: Bayta Mallow now has great psychic power and is hunting the hidden Second Foundation. This adds real tension and raises questions about loyalty and power.

- The Empire’s New Tyranny: Brother Darkness becomes a full autocrat using the black hole bomb. I’m curious to see how the Foundation fights him.

- Robot Revelation: A secret robot civilization on Earth’s moon is discovered. This ties to Asimov’s Robot series and could change the story completely. I love how the show mixes old lore with new ideas.

- Gaal’s Journey: Gaal keeps following Hari Seldon’s predictions and faces the results of her past actions. Her story is the emotional center of the show.

Looking Ahead

Season 4 is aiming higher than ever. With Prague’s locations, new showrunners, intense storylines, and David S. Goyer still involved. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together.
