Severance & Sci-Fi Shine at Emmys 2025 - Wins, Nominations & Highlights
This year, Apple TV+'s "Severance" stole the spotlight at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards. With 27 nominations, it led all shows, including ten in the major categories. As a sci-fi fan, I have to admit, I wasn’t surprised. The way this show blends mystery, technology, and human emotion is brilliant!
Severance Dominates the Emmys 2025 Nominations with Major Wins

Britt Lower won the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and Tramell Tillman took home Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. I was cheering for them both. Merritt Wever also earned recognition during the Creative Arts Emmys as Guest Actress in a Drama. Seeing these wins felt like a victory for sci-fi storytelling on TV.
Beyond these wins, "Severance" was up for Best Drama Series, though it lost to The Pitt. Individual nominations included Adam Scott (Lead Actor), Dan Erickson (Writing), Jessica Lee and Ben Stiller (Directing), and Patricia Arquette (Supporting Actress). Even though some didn’t win, the sheer number of nominations shows how the show is reshaping sci-fi drama.
Other Sci-Fi Highlights
Not every sci-fi win was about the giants like Severance. Disney+’s "Andor" won Writing for a Drama Series (Dan Gilroy), while also earning a Best Drama Series nomination. The Last of Us grabbed nods for Best Drama Series, with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in lead acting categories.
Netflix’s "Black Mirror" was nominated for Best Limited or Anthology Series, and Rashida Jones, along with Charlie Brooker and Bisha K Ali, were recognized for acting and writing. As a viewer, it’s exciting to see all these shows, each with different sci-fi flavors from dystopian to futuristic tech getting serious attention.
