Alien Earth Season 2 Is Officially Filming

On September 3, FX released the first behind-the-scenes video footage from the London set, confirming that production on Alien Earth Season 2 is officially underway at Pinewood Studios.

The footage is an important update because the series had previously been surrounded by production details without much actual material from the set, so seeing the second season in active production makes its return feel much more concrete. The London production also fits the scale of the Alien universe, where industrial locations, large sets, and practical-looking technology can make the world feel much more grounded than a typical television production.

And the fact that FX is already showing behind-the-scenes footage is more interesting than another vague casting or development update because it suggests the second season has entered the part of production where fans can start getting real clues about what is coming.

Silo Cinematographer Ed Moore Will Direct the Finale

Another major update arrived yesterday (on September 27), when Ed Moore announced that he will make his directorial debut by directing the Alien Earth Season 2 finale. Moore's announcement may also provide a clue about the season's episode count. In an Instagram post about his directorial debut, he shared a film slate with "Alien Earth 208" written on it, which may indicate that he is directing episode 208, or the eighth episode of Season 2.

That means Alien Earth Season 2 will consist of eight episodes, although FX has not officially confirmed the total episode count.

Moore is already familiar with high-profile science fiction and thriller productions, having worked as a cinematographer on Apple's Silo and Hijack, which gives him plenty of experience creating the visual style needed for a large-scale genre series. His connection to Silo is especially interesting because that series relies heavily on atmosphere, dark industrial environments, and carefully controlled visuals to create tension without constantly showing the threat directly.

That does not mean Alien Earth Season 2 will suddenly look like Silo, but putting someone with Moore's background behind the camera for the finale could make the final episode particularly worth watching.
