In a town where nighttime brings literal monsters, the scariest job belongs to the person who has to patch the survivors back together. That burden falls squarely on Kristi Miller. In this exclusive interview, SciFi Spiral talks to FROM star Chloe Van Landschoot about Kristi’s journey in Season 4 and Fromville.

SciFi Spiral: In Episode 2 of Season 4, during the ambulance sequence with Officer Acosta, Kristi strongly states that there’s no way out while trying to stop her from driving recklessly. In that moment, is Kristi speaking from a belief she has fully accepted about the town, or is it more of a practical, urgent response to a dangerous situation unfolding?

Chloe Van Landschoot: I think it’s both. In that moment, Kristi is absolutely trying to stop a dangerous situation from getting worse. She’s definitely a fixer, and as the town medic, her instinct is always to stabilize things, keep people calm, and keep herself calm too. So there’s a very immediate, practical urgency behind what she’s saying.

But I also think part of her truly believes it at this point, even if she doesn’t fully want to admit that to herself. Deep down, Kristi is terrified of what would happen if she fully surrendered to the lore of this place, because the second she does, she risks losing the part of herself that helps keep both herself and other people alive.

SciFi Spiral: What was the most challenging sequence for you to shoot this season?

Chloe Van Landschoot: Some scenes in Episode 10 were definitely the most challenging for me this season, but that hasn’t aired yet so I have to stay very shhh about it!

The Elgin eye-stitch sequence was also a unique challenge to say the least. Those were actually my hands doing the stitching on the prosthetic over his ACTUAL REAL eye, which was incredibly nerve wracking. There’s something especially stressful about pretending to do a medical procedure while also trying not to accidentally blind your buddy. Nathan was such an incredible sport through all of it, and I think the work really paid off because the final result is absolutely NASTY in the best way.

SciFi Spiral: Every season of FROM ends on a major shift in the story. Now with events escalating in Season 4, how would you describe the emotional climate of this season compared to the earlier ones?

Chloe Van Landschoot: The Man in Yellow cosplaying as a teenage Bible-loving girlie pop. Enough said.

SciFi Spiral: Without spoilers, what should viewers pay closest attention to in Kristi’s journey this season?

Chloe Van Landschoot: Her bangs? They definitely hold all the secrets. Only half kidding.

I think what’s interesting is that a lot of Kristi’s struggle isn’t always loud or explosive. A lot of it lives in the quieter moments where she’s trying very hard to stay steady. This season, she really doubles down on control, facts, and logic because that’s the only framework she trusts in a town full of monsters. In Kristi’s mind, the deeper people get pulled into the mythology of the town, the more it threatens the way she understands the world. So a lot of her journey this season is that constant wavering between fighting for control and living in a place that refuses to operate logically.

SciFi Spiral: The FROM fan community is extremely analytical, constantly building theories about the town and its mysteries. What has most surprised you about audience interpretations or reactions so far?

Chloe Van Landschoot: Honestly, the level of detail people pick up on constantly blows my mind. Y’all definitely know way more about this town than us actors, I’ll tell you that. I love the way people will interpret a background object that appeared for 1.5 seconds as the key to the ticket out of here. The theories get so detailed and specific, and it’s honestly really fun to watch.

But beyond that, I think it’s just really cool to see that level of investment and the sense of community the show has created. People are watching together, theorizing together, arguing together, spiraling together. We literally wouldn’t have a show without the online threads and the fans who keep the conversations going between seasons, and I don’t think any of us take that for granted.

SciFi Spiral: You have a background in medicine and nursing. When you first approached Kristi, how much did that real-world experience influence your understanding of her as a doctor, and how has continuing to play her over multiple seasons shaped that perspective?

Chloe Van Landschoot: It helped BIG TIME! I immediately understood those instincts to stay calm, useful, and rational in crisis situations. In healthcare, people often look to you to regulate the emotional temperature of the room, so you learn very quickly how to compartmentalize and keep moving even when things are emotionally overwhelming underneath the hood.

But honestly, I’m actually an extremely sensitive person. I was working full-time in the Emergency Department during COVID when I booked Kristi, so I came into the role from a place where functioning often had to come before processing. I had learned how to put a lot of my own emotions away in order to survive in healthcare, and Kristi does the exact same thing.

Over time, playing her actually became a way of reconnecting to some of the emotional parts of myself I had suppressed during that period of my life. Ironically, I think that tension is what gives her authenticity. Beneath Kristi’s calmness, there’s always something being managed internally. And over the seasons, I think I’ve found more ways to let the sensitive parts of myself seep into her.

SciFi Spiral: The show is now deep into its run, with a clearly evolving long-form story. Looking back at your journey from Season 1 to now, what has been the most rewarding part of being in this ensemble?

Chloe Van Landschoot: When we started Season 1, none of us really knew what this experience was going to become, and now years later, with a 5th and final season on its way, I honestly still can’t fully believe it. It’s been really special getting to grow alongside this cast, both as our characters and as people.

I’ve definitely made some lifelong buds through this experience, and I think that closeness naturally found its way into the show over time. There’s a real trust and history between all of us now that you can’t really fake. And beyond everything creatively, I just feel genuinely excited for what’s ahead for everyone. It’s so rare to get to be part of something that lasts this long in THIS ECONOMY.

SciFi Spiral: Outside of FROM, what kinds of stories or character roles are you most excited to explore next as an actor?

Chloe Van Landschoot: After playing Kristi for so many years, I’m definitely ready to play someone completely feral. Maybe even an ACTUAL wild animal at this point. I feel pulled toward embodied, physical, offbeat characters. Ones who move strangely, think strangely, take up space in unusual ways. I’m also really drawn to work that lets the body tell the story. I was a dancer my whole life, and lately I’ve been writing and workshopping stories that communicate through movement, behaviour, rhythm, and physicality rather than relying heavily on words. That kind of storytelling feels really alive to me right now!

A massive thank you to Chloe Van Landschoot for sharing her insights with SciFi Spiral. Kristi remains the beating heart of a very dark world, and we cannot wait to see where the rest of Season 4 takes her.

I’ve been obsessed with sci-fi for as long as I can remember. Writing lets me explore those worlds while focusing on the people living in them. Isaac Asimov’s books especially got me through some of my harder times, and they still stick with me in a way I can’t really explain. Joining SciFi Spiral introduced me to a community of fellow fans, and I’ve made some amazing friends who love sci-fi just as much as I do. When I’m not writing, you’ll probably find me reading my favorite sci-fi books.
