Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 6 "What the Universe Is Made Of" Recap: A New Entanglement Theory

Another good episode of Dark Matter! This week's episode 6 pushes the story deeper into the emotional and scientific consequences of the Box, with Daniela confronting another version of her family, Jason1 searching for a way to escape the multiverse, and Charlie making a decision that could completely change his life.
The episode also introduces a major development in the rules of the multiverse, suggesting that the choices people make may be more important than anyone previously understood. I found that idea especially interesting because it gives the show's multiverse something more personal than simply being a collection of alternate worlds.
Daniela Has to Explain the Impossible

Daniela travels to a remote family home in Illinois, where she reunites with her stepfather, Gabriel Vargas, but their meeting quickly becomes difficult when Gabriel receives a phone call from the version of Daniela who belongs to his timeline. The experience sends Gabriel into a panic attack, and Daniela has little choice but to explain what is really happening, including the existence of the Box and the countless parallel realities connected to it.
Jason1 Starts Looking for a Way Out

Jason1 continues trying to understand how the different realities are connected, and his conversation with "Chef Amanda" gives him a different way to approach the problem. While spending time at Amanda's diner, she encourages Jason1 to focus on his own happiness rather than allowing the chaos around him to completely control his life. Her advice pushes him back toward the scientific side of the problem, and he begins writing a thesis about quantum entanglement.
His goal is to find a way to disentangle the low-tech world (their current world) from the rest of the multiverse, potentially giving Jason1 a scientific solution to a problem that has so far seemed almost impossible to solve.

Blair2 Returns With a New Theory

Blair's return takes another strange turn when she meets Jason1 at the diner and reveals that she is actually Blair2, a version of herself who survived the reality filled with giant insects and eventually learned how to navigate the Box.
Blair2 brings an ampule with her and presents Jason1 with a theory that could change how he understands the multiverse. According to her, it may not simply be the worlds themselves that become entangled, but the choices people make, creating connections between versions of the same people across different realities. If choices really can create physical or quantum connections between different realities, then Jason1's attempts to escape the multiverse could be far more complicated than he realizes.
Charlie Enters the Box

The episode becomes much more emotional when Jason1 tells Charlie about meeting a version of his deceased brother, Max, somewhere in the multiverse.
The conversation happens over dinner, but the information clearly stays with Charlie, who eventually decides to skip his upcoming birthday celebrations and use an ampule to enter the Box himself. I think his goal is to find another reality where Max is still alive. My heart sank when Charlie made that decision because he wants to see his brother again, but the Box is not a safe place for someone who is entering it because of grief. Charlie does not know what kind of world he could end up in, and even a reality that contains Max could come with consequences he cannot imagine. The decision also creates another emotional problem for Jason1, who now has to deal with the possibility that someone he loves is entering the same dangerous system he has been trying to escape.
Leighton2 Reveals the Pyramid

The biggest reveal comes toward the end of the episode when Leighton2 takes Blair2 into his basement office and shows her what he has built.
Leighton2 has created a new pyramid-shaped like structure that appears to be an evolved version of the Box's technology. He has spent two years developing it in this timeline, and the design seems intended to make multiversal travel more precise, reducing the possibility that stray thoughts could send someone toward an unwanted reality. If my assumptions are correct, then the new version of the Box will have a much greater level of control over where it can take someone.
The Pyramid is the episode's cliffhanger because it creates a direct conflict between two very different goals. Jason1 is trying to find a way to disentangle his world from the multiverse, while Leighton2 appears to be moving in the opposite direction by making travel between realities more controlled and accessible, but I believe we're heading into a much more dangerous stage of the story.
