Pluribus Season 2 Officially Begins Filming [PRODUCTION UPDATE]

Today is officially Day One of filming for Pluribus Season 2 in Albuquerque, New Mexico!

The hit Apple TV sci-fi show is back in production for its next 10 episodes. Crews are expected to be on the ground in New Mexico for an intensive 225-day shoot, which means filming will wrap around June 2027. Because of the massive amount of special effects needed for the setting, the new season likely won't premiere until mid-2028.

Series creator Vince Gilligan confirmed that the writers' room has mapped out the entire storyline for the season, though they are still fine-tuning the final scripts. Lead actress Rhea Seehorn, who plays Carol Sturka, recently shared that the cast has received the first few scripts. She teased fans by calling the premiere episode "absolute bananas." The upcoming season will continue the story from Season 1, following Carol as she fights to protect herself and human individuality against a global virus that forces everyone into a hive mind of artificial happiness.

Why the Long Wait?

A 225-day shooting schedule is incredibly long for a 10-episode show. For comparison, a massive space opera like Foundation took only ~120 shooting days for Season 4, even though it features completely different planets and significantly more expansive settings.

Vince Gilligan is famous for his slow, highly detailed, and cinematic filmmaking style. The city of Albuquerque even extended the show's set permits through 2028 to make sure the crew has all the time they need to build the show's post-apocalyptic world.

We will follow the production closely and keep updating you as more updates roll out. For immediate updates, make sure to follow our Pluribus universe page.

I’ve been obsessed with sci-fi for as long as I can remember. Writing lets me explore those worlds while focusing on the people living in them. Isaac Asimov’s books especially got me through some of my harder times, and they still stick with me in a way I can’t really explain. Joining SciFi Spiral introduced me to a community of fellow fans, and I’ve made some amazing friends who love sci-fi just as much as I do. When I’m not writing, you’ll probably find me reading my favorite sci-fi books.
